The ‘Graduate Online Youth Quiz’
is a free on-line educational Quiz for primary and post
primary students throughout Ireland. Many national public
and private organisations and European institutions support
the Quiz through sponsorship and the provision of prizes.
The aim of the Quiz is to increase students civic, social
and political awareness in an innovative, fun and engaging
manner. The Quiz encourages students to develop an understanding
of how various public institutions work, how they interact
with young people and how they impact upon their everyday
lives, as well as developing their Internet and computer
skills.
The Quiz operates on an annual basis during the academic
year, starting in September and concluding in May each
year. Students can register to participate at any time
during the academic year by logging on to the website
(www.graduate.ie). Each week a new set of questions
relating to areas as diverse as the Arts, environment,
politics, health and safety, the Irish language, music,
sport, European affairs, etc becomes available on the
website. The website provides links to the relevant
websites and WebPages making it easy for students to
correctly answer the questions.
Every Monday, a computer randomly selects five weekly
winners and the appropriate schools are notified that
one of their pupils has won a prize – the school
principals communicate this information to the entire
school. The names of the five winners are then announced
on RTE 2FM each Monday evening.
